Language both relays and responds to the role of power in modern society as evidenced through the linguistic analysis of both spoken and written language both synchronically and diachronically. The theme of the conference is 'Power and Poetry in the Modern World'. 

Call for Papers:

With the themes of the conference in mind, the SAMLA linguistics session welcomes submissions of proposals on the connection and role of language to power, poetics, and the modern world, inviting papers from all linguistic disciplines that deal with the intersections of language and power and language and the modern world. Topics may include but are not limited to: language change in modern society; language and power (social/political/economic); and language, gender, and power.

Abstracts of 300 words (excluding references) in .doc or pdf format should be emailed to rchilds at coastal.edu by June 15, 2011.
