Tasks: The candidate for the chair should represent the gamut of General Linguistics and be
both theoretically and empirically grounded. S/he should be internationally established in
General Linguistic research and teaching and have an empirical and areal focus. The
candidate should exhibit a command of the many facets of General Linguistics and the
analytical study of diverse linguistic phenomena both in research and in teaching. It is
desirable that the candidate demonstrate success in raising grant monies and research
funding and be ready to collaborate with colleagues within the Linguistics Institute, with
colleagues from other disciplines and with the faculty research centres. In addition to the
supervision of students, the chair will be required to participate actively in running the
Department and managing its position within the faculty and the university as whole.
Requirements: Habilitation or equivalent qualification. The University of Bern aspires to
increase the number of women in leading academic positions and therefore strongly invites
female researchers to apply.
