Call Deadline: 15-Jun-2011

Meeting Description:

Writing Assessment in Higher Education: Making the Framework Work
Two-day International Symposium which will be held in Amsterdam on 27 & 28 October 2011

The theme is based on the consideration that the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is inadequately specified at the higher competence levels with regard to descriptors for written competence. As such, the framework provides insufficient information for curriculum design and assessment. Research conducted at the VU in the context of the Pearson chair in Language testing is primarily geared to defining relevant linguistic parameters for the assessment of academic writing.

Call for Papers:

We invite proposals for 20-minute papers or poster presentations. Suggested topics include the following:

- Application of the CEFR in academic writing assessment
- Parameters of successful academic writing
- Teaching writing in higher education
- Entrance/exit requirements for writing in higher education
- Assessment of academic writing
- Defining academic vocabulary

Abstracts should be no more than 300 words (excluding titles of no more than 12 words), and they should be submitted without naming the author(s) or their work.

Important Dates:

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 June 2011.
Notification of acceptance will be sent by 1 August 2011.
Early registration will be open until 15 August 2011.

We are discussing the possibilities for publishing the conference papers with several parties.
