Joint NZILBB / MARCS Postdoctoral Researcher

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a joint
three year fixed term Postdoctoral position at the New Zealand Institute of
Language, Brain and Behaviour, University of Canterbury and MARCS Auditory
Laboratories, University of Western Sydney, Australia.

The New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour (NZILBB) is a
new multi-disciplinary centre dedicated to the study of human language. The
researchers come from a wide range of disciplines, forging connections
across linguistics, speech production and perception, language acquisition,
language disorders, social cognition, memory, brain imaging, cognitive
science, bilingual education, and interface technologies. More information

MARCS Auditory Laboratories is a multidisciplinary centre for research in
auditory perception and cognition, particularly in Speech and Language; and
Music, Sound and Action. MARCS has state-of-the-art laboratories and
equipment, extensive higher degree research student facilities, and
numerous doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and research and support
staff. MARCS personnel collaborate with researchers in various disciplines
including psychology, linguistics, music, education, computer science and

You will be jointly based at NZILBB in Christchurch, New Zealand and at
MARCS Auditory Laboratories in Sydney, Australia. You will conduct research
in experimental phonetics, on a topic that appropriately exploits the
trans-Tasman nature of the appointment. It is expected that you will
equally divide your time between the two locations. 

As a successful candidate, you will have a PhD or equivalent (NZQA Level
10) in a field related to studies of language, brain and behaviour, such as
Linguistics, Psychology, Speech-Language Therapy, Speech Pathology, Medical
Physics, as well as demonstrated experience with specialist research
equipment such as Electromagnetic Articulography, WAVE, OPTOTRAK or other
movement analysis equipment, and or/and neuroimaging, preferably TMS, EEG
or fMRI (MRI, DTI or brain perfusion) or structural MRI, as well as
demonstrated experience of excellent research capabilities (design and
leadership) required to conduct innovative and insightful research.
