Meeting Description: 

>From 30 June to 02 July 2011, the University of Greifswald, Germany will host
the 'Third Conference on Language Contact in Times of Globalization' (LCTG3).
The symposium will take place in the 555th anniversary year of the university
and  will be organized in cooperation with the University of Groningen,
continuing the tradition which was started there with the two forerunner
conferences LCTG1 and LCTG2 in 2006 and 2009.

The conference will focus on language choice and contact scenarios in real-life
settings, the media and multilingual institutions. Additionally, there will a
session on linguistic landscapes (i.e. multilingual signage in public space) on
metalinguistic discourse on language contact in times of globalization. Thus,
the conference offers a broad-ranging programme with registered participants
from the USA, Canada, India, Australia, Thailand, Nigeria and various European
countries (Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Estonia,
Latvia and Hungary).

It is possible to get registered as a participant (listener) up to 15 June 2011.
The conference fee is 50 EUR (to be paid via bank transfer - please ask for
further information). 

LCTG3 Program

Our keynote speakers are the following internationally renowned scholars:

Durk Gorter    (University of the Basque Country Ikerbasque)
Yaron Matras   (Manchester University)
Dennis Preston (Oklahoma State University)
Mark Sebba     (University of Lancaster)
Donald Winford (Ohio State University)

The conference, which is funded by the German Science Foundation, is organized
in six thematic sections.
