Meeting Description:

The Department of Linguistics, School of Philology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, is pleased to announce its 33rd Annual Meeting to be held in Thessaloniki on April 27, 201. The Department of Linguistics, in the light of the generalized economic crisis, the austerity measures and the lack of substantial financial support to the Meeting thereof, decided to minimize its duration while maintaining its long standing annual basis, and, of course, its high standards. Thus, as from 2012 the conference will last one day (10-11 slots), and will be themed. It will be preceded by the student 'pre-conference' session, to be held in 2012 on April 26. The Institute for Modern Greek Studies ('Manolis Triantafyllidis Foundation') remains the regular-and generous-sponsor of the Meeting, since, despite the adverse economic situation, it has been publishing without interruption the Proceedings of the Meeting for over a decade.

The theme of the 2012 Meeting is:

Syntactic Theories and the Syntax of Greek

Invited Speakers:

Elena Anagnostopoulou (Crete)
Georgia Catsimali (Crete)
Ruth Kempson (London)
Dimitra Kolliakou (Paris Diderot/Paris 7)

Call for Papers:

Those who wish to participate in the 33nd Annual Meeting with a presentation are invited to submit two copies of their abstracts (one anonymous and one signed) to amgl33_2012 at lit.auth.gr by December 31, 2011. Notification of acceptance will be sent by January 31, 2012. Abstracts should be submitted electronically as a word and a pdf file. The anonymous copy should be free of references to the names of the author(s). The name 'Author' with the publication date of the article can be used instead.

Submissions should be in the following format:

Length: One A4 page (including bibliography)
Font: Times New Roman 12ptSpace: single
Margins: 1 inch all sides
For the signed copy: title, author(s), affiliation, email address (centred)
For the anonymous copy: title (centred)

Each participant is entitled to submit only one (single or joined) paper-presentation. Talks will last 20 minutes, open to 10 minutes discussion. The papers may be presented in Greek or in English.

Pre-conference graduate workshop

A pre-conference postgraduate workshop will be held on the 26th of April 2012. Students (postgraduate and doctoral) are encouraged to submit an abstract on any area of linguistics. State-of-the-art and review papers will not be accepted for presentation. The papers that will be accepted for presentation may be further submitted for publication in the Proceedings.

Participation fee:

Regular fee: 40 EUR
Student fee (for undergraduate and postgraduate students): 15 EUR

The price includes the conference material, coffee breaks and the Proceedings of the 33nd Annual Meeting to be published in the following year.

Organizing Committee:

Melita Stavrou
Stamatia Michalopoulou
