The 22nd Annual Conference of the European Second Language Association will be organized by the School of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. The conference will start in the morning of 6 September 2012 and close at lunch time on 8 September 2012. Jean-Marc Dewaele, University of London
Alex Housen, University of Brussels (VUB)
Guillaume Thierry, Bangor University

Conference Theme:

Expanding Discipline Boundaries

Call for Papers:

The conference theme is 'Expanding Discipline Boundaries'. We would like to focus on how research in second language acquisition connects with research conducted in other fields. We welcome proposals for papers, posters, and thematic colloquia from all areas of second language acquisition research. Paper and poster proposals should not have been previously published. Each author may submit no more than one individual and one co-authored abstract. All submissions will be reviewed anonymously by the scientific committee and evaluated in terms of originality, clarity, and significance of findings and conclusions.

Important Dates:

5 February 2012: Deadline for all submissions
15 April 2012: Notification of acceptance
5 September 2012: PhD workshops and Language Learning Round Table
6-8 September 2012: Conference

Individual Papers and Posters:

Papers will be allocated 30 minutes - 20 minutes for presentation and 10 for discussion. Posters are intended as a format for work-in-progress reports.

Thematic Colloquia:

The Thematic colloquia will take place in three-hour slots in parallel to other sessions. Each colloquium will focus on one specific topic, and will bring together key contributions to the topic. Colloquium convenors should allocate time for opening and closing remarks, individual papers, discussants (if included) and general discussion.

Doctoral Student Workshop:

The doctoral student workshop is intended to serve as a platform for discussion of ongoing PhD research within any aspect of SLA. PhD students are invited to submit an abstract for a 15-minute presentation focusing on theoretical or methodological issues. Students whose abstracts are accepted will then be required to send their paper to a discussant (a senior researcher). The discussant will lead a 15-minute feedback/discussion session on their work.

Language Policy:

Following the EUROSLA association policy, EuroSLA 2012 will be a multilingual conference. Presentation in any European language is acceptable. However, abstracts must be written in English. Delegates who wish to give their presentation in another language than English are asked to notify the organisers by 30 April 2012.

Publication of Papers:

A selection of papers presented at EuroSLA 2012 will be included in the EuroSLA Yearbook.
