Meeting Description:

The 6th Conference on Languages, Discourse, and Cognition (CLDC 2012) will be held from May 4 to 6, 2012, hosted by Graduate Institute of Linguistics, Department of Psychology, Neurobiology and Cognitive Science Center at National Taiwan University, and Linguistic Society of Taiwan. 

The CLDC, as an annual international conference, aims to provide a forum for researchers interested in language, discourse, and cognition to report new research findings, exchange innovative ideas and share their frameworks in these areas. Although CLDC was launched only five years ago, the topics relevant to language, discourse, and cognition themes as well as the interdisciplinary exchange stimulated over the last few years have given rise to a growing body of critical findings, making CLDC an important annual event in the fields of Cognitive Linguistics/Functional Linguistics in East Asia. We hope that the CLDC 2012 meeting will continue to attract a greater number of international researchers to participate in the dialog. 

The CLDC 2012 will focus on research associated with Cognitive Linguistics/Functional Linguistics and interdisciplinary research. The meeting will be comprised of a general session with the theme of 'Cognitive Linguistics/Functional Linguistics and Interdisciplinary Studies' and a special session with the theme of 'Emotion, Language, and Cognition.'

Theme: Cognitive Linguistics/Functional Linguistics and Interdisciplinary Studies
 
Like its predecessors, the 6th Conference on Language, Discourse, and Cognition (CLDC 2012) provides an international forum that brings together researchers interested in language, discourse and cognition to report new research findings, exchange innovative ideas, and develop new research directions. The special focus of this year's conference includes interdisciplinary research looking at cross-fertilization between cognitive and functional linguistics and allied disciplines, including psychology, neuroscience, biological science, cognitive science, and brain science. Interdisciplinary studies in these areas promise to become increasingly important as scientists aim to build a comprehensive model of cognitive and functional linguistics. Thus, we have set the CLDC 2012 theme as 'Cognitive Linguistics/Functional Linguistics and Interdisciplinary Studies' in the hope that we can further explore the various issues bearing on the symbiosis between Cognitive Linguistics/Functional Linguistics and other disciplines. We would like therefore to invite original abstracts on topics dealing with the theme of the general session. Possible fields include, but are not restricted to, the following:

Special Session:

Theme: Emotion, Language, and Cognition

The 6th Conference on Language, Discourse, and Cognition (CLDC 2012) features a special session titled 'Emotion, Language, and Cognition.' Over the past decades, the language of emotion has become an increasingly important topic in fields such as cognitive and functional linguistics, psychology, and cognitive science. By looking in depth at the concepts of emotion, language, and cognition, we may gain a better understanding of how emotions are expressed and embedded in different linguistic structures, and also how they function at different cognitive levels, such as verbal communication, social interaction, metaphorical expressions, and embodiment. There are to be sure many other issues or new possibilities in research methodology worth exploring - for example, the new directions and aggregate innovations in language of emotion research that interdisciplinary integration and exchange is facilitating. With this in mind, CLDC 2012 Special Session invites abstracts on innovative research related to all the various aspects of language of emotion, including theoretical or applied and interdisciplinary research. Possible topics include, but are not restricted to, the following:

Submissions:

Abstracts must be written in English and a maximum of 500 words in length. (References are not included.)

Submissions are limited to one abstract per person, as either single or joint author. Please submit abstracts to one session (either general or special) only. In the case of joint authorship, please designate only one corresponding author for communication with CLDC 2012. If not specifically indicated, the first author will by default be the corresponding author.

Please do not include any information in your abstract which may reveal your identity, as the review process will be conducted anonymously.
