Applications are invited for the above post, available from 1 February 2012 - 
31 January 2017.

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures contains one of the UK's 
largest concentrations of high-quality research and teaching in languages and 
linguistics. Within it, the discipline area of Linguistics and English Language 
is seeking to fill the position of Lecturer in English Language on a fixed-term 
basis, replacing Dr Nuria Yáñez-Bouza during a period of research leave. 
Candidates with a research specialism in the History of English are 
encouraged to apply.

You will have proven ability and potential in research, with a developing 
record of publications in the area named above. You will be expected to 
contribute to research activities within their area of expertise, generate 
scholarly publications, submit research grant applications and participate in 
research supervision at PGT and PGR level.

The appointment will be specifically in the area currently covered by Dr Nuria 
Yáñez-Bouza, so will be expected to teach such course units as Historical 
Linguistics, History of English, Middle English, Introduction to English 
Grammar, World Englishes and Attitudes to Language (i.e. the history of 
grammar-writing and prescriptive attitudes to English), at both UG and PGT 
level. The ability to be involved in the delivery of study skills sessions and to 
teach in the area of corpus linguistics will be an advantage.

You must be able to collaborate closely with colleagues in the delivery of 
teaching and learning, be willing to take a share of responsibilities for student 
progress and academic management, and be eager to make a full 
commitment to our ideals of collegiality and academic integrity at all levels of 
activity.
