Meeting Description:

The North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL) is a premier international conference series dedicated to scientific research of the Chinese language. It serves as a leading platform for researchers worldwide to share and exchange scholarly explorations and fresh knowledge in all subfields of Chinese linguistics.

The 24th North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL-24), co-organized by the University of California at Davis and the University of San Francisco, will be held from June 8-10, 2012 on the campus of the University of San Francisco in San Francisco, California.

2012 is the year to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Yuen Ren Chao (1892-1982). 'More than anyone else, Chao laid the foundation of linguistics in China.' (William S-Y. Wang, 1983). Of his long and splendid academic career of more than six decades, about half (1947-1981) was spent in California. The NACCL-24 conference is proudly dedicated to the memory of Yuen Ren Chao and to the celebration of the development of the Chinese linguistics enterprise that Chao pioneered.

Call for Papers:

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute paper presentations (plus 5 minutes for questions) addressing all theoretical and applied aspects of Chinese linguistics, which include, but are by no means limited to:

- Yuen Ren Chao and Chinese linguistics
- Chinese phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, discourse analysis and pragmatics, dialectology
- Chinese historical linguistics
- Chinese computational and corpus linguistics, language engineering
- Chinese L1 & L2 learning and acquisition
- Chinese L1 & L2 pedagogies and their linguistic foundations
- Chinese scripts
- Chinese lexicography
- Cross-linguistic studies of Chinese and other languages

The languages of the conference are English and Chinese.

Abstract Submission, Review, and Notice of Acceptance:

Abstracts should be submitted online beginning from November 20, 2011 until January 15, 2012. Please follow the instructions and requirements given on the NACCL-24 website at http://naccl-24.ucdavis.edu to make your submission. All abstracts will be subject to double-blind peer review by the conference's Scientific Committee. Notification of acceptance decisions will be communicated by March 10, 2012.
