Description:

Applications are invited for postdoc/research associate positions in the
Department of Computer Science at Brandeis University to work on a
large-scale Chinese language processing project funded by the U.S.
government. The postdoc/research associate is expected to conduct research
in Chinese language processing, and/or performing syntactic and semantic
analysis on large-scale Chinese language data sets in a variety of genres.
We are looking for either theoretical linguists who have a strong interest
in computer processing of natural languages and have acquired significant
programming skills, or computational linguists who are interested in
fundamental natural language processing problems such as sentence boundary
detection, word segmentation,part-of-speech tagging, syntactic parsing and
semantic role labeling.

Qualifications:
-  Ph.D. or M.A. in computational or theoretical linguistics, especially in
syntax and lexical semantics 
-  Native or near-native level of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
Expertise in Chinese syntax and lexical semantics is especially valuable
-  Project mangagement skills and able to supervise a small team of annotators.
-  Programming skills in Python, Perl and/or Java
-  Comfortable working with Unix/Linux platforms
