Meeting Description:

In its 40th year of existence, the Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL) will meet in Nassau in the Bahamas from 30 July to 3 August 2012. The conference is being hosted by the College of the Bahamas. The Conference theme is Linguistic Diversity, Identity and Structure(s) in the Caribbean: Assessing the Past and Planning for the Future. 

Call for Papers:

Abstracts on all types of Caribbean languages are invited. Caribbean languages include spoken and signed languages, Amerindian languages, creole languages, standardised, official and non-standardised language varieties, immigrant languages, heritage languages, endangered languages, and religious and ritual languages. Abstracts pertaining to any of the following panel themes are invited (in any sub-discipline of linguistics): Bahamian Language Issues and Situations with possible sub-themes: A Language Policy for the Bahamas, and Bahamian and Haitian in Bahamian Classrooms, Language and Migration in and out of the Caribbean, Language and Education, Language and the Law and Bible Translation in the Caribbean.

N.B.: Abstracts on non-Caribbean language varieties can only be considered if the proposed title, abstract and paper compare or contrast such a variety with a Caribbean language or language situation.
