Meeting Description:

POS annotation is assigning a label or a tag to a word/token in a sentence according to its parts parts-of-speech category. Being an intermediate level of analysis, it is primarily meant to disambiguate the output of morph-analysis.

POS annotation can be both manual as well as automatic. Manual annotation, though more accurate, is a time-consuming process. Since large scale quality annotated data is required for the consuming technological development of Indian languages, POS taggers are very essential to gear up the process of annotation. So far, various automatic taggers have been developed in India and outside for Indian languages, using linguistic rules, stochastic and hybrid models. Since Indian languages are highly inflectional and morphologically rich, POS annotation (both manual and automatic) in Indian languages is a challenging task. Moreover, there is a need to bring the consensus among the NLP groups so that there will be uniformity in the annotation schemes that are being used in the context of Indian languages.

In this context, LDC-IL is organising a national seminar to bring together researchers working in this area and provide a platform to present their work and to share knowledge. This event endeavours to concentrate on the challenges in the area of POS annotation and to investigate and to share novel annotation advancements. It also aims to provide researchers an academic space to discuss the most recent information about theories, tools and techniques explored for POS annotation, and focuses on related issues, linguistic as well as computational.

Abstracts of no more than 500 words (including references) mentioning the title of the paper, author(s) name, institutional affiliation, and email address should be submitted by the due date in .rtf or .pdf format to the following email addresses:
