University or Organization: Stockholm University
Job Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Web Address: http://www.fosprak.su.se/english/
Job Rank: Doctoral Student

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics

Description:

The Faculty of Humanities, Stockholm University announces appointments
for Nine (9) doctoral students attached to FoSprak, the Special Doctoral
Program in Language and Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities. Deadline
for applications October 14, 2011. Ref nr: SU 617-2342-11.

FoSprak offers a qualified research educational program with focus on the
systematicity and structure of language, i.e. with focus on the traditional core
areas of linguistics: phonology, morphology, syntax, as well as semantics
and pragmatics. The thesis should be based on empirical material derived
from one or more languages, preferably with a cross-linguistic or diachronic
perspective.

FoSprak will accept applicants from all areas of language study that have
supervisor capacity at the Faculty of Humanities. Thesis topics should be
theoretically, methodologically, or empirically linked to the focus of the
program, and it is consequently important for applicants to be familiar with the
profile of the special doctoral program, which can be found on its homepage:
http://www.fosprak.su.se/english/programme

Although the Faculty of Humanities is responsible for organizing and
administering FoSprak, doctoral students must be accepted by and attached
to the individual departments of the faculty that have relevant research
programs. FoSprak includes several courses within core areas as well as
research seminars for participants. Remaining courses are provided by the
individual departments. Supervision will be provided both by the relevant
department and FoSprak.

For questions of eligibility, details of admission, application form, instructions
for applicants, conditions of employment at Stockholm University, please
refer to the homepage (URL above), where a full description of the positions
is given.
