Meeting Description:

The University of Copenhagen and the Danish School of Education invite you to participate in the 11th Nordic Conference on Bilingualism at the Danish School of Education in Copenhagen.

The main theme of the conference will be bilingualism and globalization. The official languages of the conference will be the Scandinavian languages and English.

During the conference a Nordic Association for the Study of Poly-lingualism will be founded.

Plenary Speakers:

Kathy Jie Dong is a postdoc at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. She has been doing language research linked to migrant identity construction and ethnographic studies of linguistic superdiversity in China.

Jürgen Jaspers is Professor at Antwerpen University. His sociolinguistic research includes studies among young minority students in Belgium.

Kirsten Refsing is Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Copenhagen with previous employment at the University of Hong Kong. Her research areas include the Japanese Language, the Ainu language and culture and the history of the British missionaries in Hokkaido and the rest of Japan 1869-1900, and she has edited The Ainu Language published in 25 volumes.

Lava Deo Awashi is Director General of the Department of Education at the Ministry of Education in Nepal. He holds a PhD from the Danish School of Education. 

Call for Papers:

The presentations of the conference are requested in three formats: panels, papers and posters.

Panels:

Proposals for workshops for up to 3x2 hours are welcome.

A motivated introduction to the workshop theme not exceeding 400 words plus 100-word abstracts for each planned contribution to the workshop should be submitted electronically to bilingualism at hum.ku.dk no later than 1 December 2011. The name and affiliations of applicants should be included in the submission

Papers:

Abstracts not exceeding 400 words and stating the name and affiliation of all authors clearly should be submitted electronically to bilingualism at hum.ku.dk no later than 1 December 2011. Papers will be allowed 25 minutes each, including discussion.

An online 'book of abstracts' will be available by 1 June 2012.

Posters:

Posters will be presented on boards. The boards will be available throughout the conference. The slots will be allotted for presentation.

One-page abstracts of maximum 400 words stating the name and affiliation of all authors clearly should be submitted electronically to bilingualism at hum.ku.dk no later than 1 December 2011.

The acceptance of the presentations will be announced by 31 January 2012.

Important Dates:

1 December 2011: Proposals should be submitted
31 January 2011: Scientific committee has decided on which abstracts will be accepted
1 April 2012: Registration final abstracts, and conference fee
