Linguistic Field(s): Semantics; Syntax

Call Deadline: 28-Apr-2012

Meeting Description:

'Binominal denominative NPs' are NPs like 'the name John', 'the poet Goethe', 'the concept 'horse', 'the truth value true' and 'the number eight'. Such have not received much attention in the syntactic and semantic literature, even though they present extremely interesting challenges to syntactic and semantic theory as well as to philosophy of language. The construction involves issues in the syntax and semantics of quotation as well as semantic strategies of 'reification'. This workshop will address empirical linguistic generalizations concerning the construction in different languages, syntactic and semantic approaches to their analysis as well as philosophical issues.

Invited Speakers and Selection Committee:

Ora Matushansky (UiL OTS, Utrecht University, CNRS/Paris 8)
Friederike Moltmann (IHPST-CNRS/Paris 1/ENS)
Danièle Van de Velde (STL-Lille 3)

Call for Papers:

A few slots are available for submitted contributions. We invite submissions of abstracts of up to two pages including reference (optionally anonymous), for a 30-minute talk.

Abstracts should be sent to: alexandra[dot]arapinis[at]malix.univ-paris1.fr

Submission deadline: April 28, 2012
Notification of acceptance: May 2, 2012
