Meeting Description:

The 5th Brno Conference on Linguistics Studies in English, English as the Lingua Franca of the Modern World: New Challenges for Academia will be held in Brno on 17-18 September 2012. As usual, the host institution will be the Department of English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic.

A detailed programme of the two-day conference will be sent after the submission of proposals. 

We are pleased to announce that the following keynote speakers have confirmed their participation at the Conference:

Prof. Anna Mauranen, University of Helsinki, Finland
Prof. Peter Grundy, University of Durham, Great Britain

The full conference fee is CZK 1250 (50 euros) and there is a reduced fee for students of CZK 1000 (40 euros). The conference fee includes participation at all sessions of the conference including the workshop on academic discourse, the conference package (book of abstracts, conference programme, map of Brno, etc.), a copy of the post-conference publication, light refreshments during coffee breaks, and conference dinner on 17 September. All participants must pay their own travel and accommodation costs. 

2nd Call for Papers:

The 5th Brno Conference focuses on English as the lingua franca of international communication in the globalized modern world. We welcome contributions on a wide range of linguistics topics, such as coherence and cohesion, pragmatic strategies, genre and stylistic variation in spoken and written discourse. The conference will also include a workshop focused on academic English. 

As we have received several requests for deadline extensions, we have extended the deadline for the registration form and abstract submission. If you wish to attend the conference, please complete the Registration Form and return it by 15 May 2012. If you would like to offer a presentation, please indicate its title on the Registration Form. The abstracts should be sent by email to one of the following addresses by 15 June 2012.
