University or Organization: University of California, Berkeley
Department: Linguistics
Job Location: California, USA
Web Address: http://linguistics.berkeley.edu
Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: Phonetics; Articulatory Phonetics

Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley
has been authorized to make an appointment in phonetics at the rank
of assistant professor (tenure-track). Salary will be commensurate
with experience; the Ph.D. is required by July 1, 2013, the starting date
of the appointment. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate
advising and teaching (four courses per year, in phonetics and other
areas of linguistics), supervision of student research, and development
of a successful and original research program.

We seek applicants who have a broad intellectual engagement in
linguistics, a theoretically informed research specialization in
phonetics, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Expertise in
articulatory phonetics is essential. Research experience in instrumental
phonetic fieldwork will be considered an asset, though is not
necessary.

Applications must include a cover letter, curricula vitae, electronic
copies of representative publications, research and teaching
statements, and evidence of excellence in teaching. Applicants should
arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent. All
recommendation letters will be treated as confidential per University of
California policy and California state law. Please refer your potential
referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e.,
dossier service or career center), to the UC Berkeley statement of
confidentiality: http://apo.chance.berkeley.edu/evalltr.html.

Please submit all materials electronically to the following URL:

http://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/apply/JPF00018

Complete applications must be received by November 8, 2012. The
search committee will interview candidates at the LSA annual meeting
in Boston, January 3-6, 2013. Questions can be sent by email to the
email address listed below.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
Employer. The Department is interested in candidates whose research,
teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to UC Berkeley's
commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.
Applications are welcomed from individuals who may have had non-
traditional career paths, who have achieved excellence in careers
outside academe (e.g., in professional or industry service) or who may
have taken time off for family reasons (e.g., children, disabled, or
elderly). The University is responsive to the needs of dual career
couples. For more information see http://calcierge.berkeley.edu/
