Role: Data Engineer

Role Description:
Nuance is looking for Data Engineer to help in the development of Nuance's 
Voice Mail to Text Platform.
 
The responsibilities of this position will include gathering and processing of 
appropriate text data, along with building and releasing statistical language 
models, and assisting with research experiments aimed at iterative 
improvements. This will be accomplished with the help of existing tools and 
technologies but will require customizations per application and data source 
along with the creation of new software.

The Data Engineer will work closely with the researchers, linguists and 
other engineers on the team. They will aid in processing, cleaning and 
conditioning data to be used for training and updating models.

The role will be working predominantly in a Linux environment making use 
of command line tools, processing large amounts of data. They will create 
new scripts for processing data and for gluing together existing tools.
 
Skills and Experience Required:
-  Degree in Computational Linguistics or similar preferred
-  The qualified candidate should have 2+ years' experience working in a 
UNIX/Linux environment
-  Solid scripting skills (shell, Perl, Python).
-  The candidate must be well-organized and responsible and capable of 
working efficiently as part of a group or independently with only moderate 
supervision
-  The ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment, and to analyze and 
solve complex problems quickly and creatively
-  You must have the right to work in the UK
 
Desired Skills Required:
-  Programming skills in, Java, C/C++, and experience with C # would be an 
advantage
-  Background, courses, and/or knowledge in the fields of statistics, machine 
learning, speech, corpus processing and/or linguistics would be helpful
-  Fluent in a second, non-English language
