Role: Speech Scientist
Location: Merelbeke, Belgium
REF: 7993

Role Description:
-  You will develop and deliver language specific components such 
as grammars, Natural Language statistical models to the product 
teams and to professional services teams. 
-  You will also contribute to the development of tools and processes 
for use by worldwide localisation teams. 
-  You will report to the ASR Languages Manager of the embedded 
automotive ASR group within the Mobility division.
-  Application of available algorithms and tools for producing 
grammars, statistical language models and NLP modules for a 
specific language.
-  Setting up and monitoring research experiments to assess the 
performance of the deployed technology on recorded speech.
-  Analyse data from field trials to improve the overall performance of 
the speech recognition and speech understanding system.
-  Work with the speech dialogue team to specifiy and develop NLP 
modules for an application domain. 
-  Contributing to the improvement, design, implementation, 
evaluation, optimization and testing of new algorithms, tools and 
processes.
-  Supporting our professional services teams to contribute to 
customer project success.
-  Assisting senior team members in research tasks.

Skills and Experience Required:
-  Experience in NLU, statistical language modeling or machine 
learning techiques is recommended.
-  You have knowledge of Automatic Speech Recognition 
technologies.
-  Working in Windows and linux environments comes natural to you.
-  Good software skills are required, more particularly a scripting 
language like Perl or Python in a Linux/Unix environment.
-  You are a team player, willing to take initiative, and are goal 
oriented.
-  You have a strong sense of precision and quality in your daily job.
-  You are fluent in English and you can write high quality 
documentation.
-  You are willing to occasionally travel. 
-  Additional background in computational linguistics is a plus.
-  You have good C, C++ or Java coding skills.
-  You illustrate your interest in languages by speaking at least two 
other languages. 
-  You have relevant work experience in a commercial or academic 
environment
-  Linguistic knowledge related to phonetics is useful.
-  You have a University degree in linguistics, engineering, 
mathematics or physics.
-  A PhD degree in a related field is a strong asset.
-  Additional training in speech recognition and computational 
linguistics is a plus.
