Meeting Description:

We are pleased to announce the 4th Student Conference on English Across Space and Time - EAST 2013, which will be held between 23 and 24 March 2013 at the Institute of English Studies at the University of Lodz. The main theme of the conference is synchronic and diachronic variability in English.

Call for Papers:

All B.A., M.A. and PhD students are invited to submit research papers in the area of historical linguistics, sociolinguistics and dialectology; the following are examples of possible issues for discussion:

- Social and regional variation in English
- Varieties of English (including English-based pidgins and creoles)
- Language change in English (on the level of phonology, morphology, syntax and pragmatics)
- English as a global language and the influence of English on other languages
- English of the new media
- English in the realm of politics

Please send a copy of an abstract of about 200 words to gavagai.society at gmail.com with your name and affiliation in the subject line. Presentations will last about 20 minutes. The conference regulations require that you provide the presentation in a digital format (i.e. .pptx, .pdf or other). The deadline for abstract submission is 3 February 2013.
