The Journal of Asia TEFL
Special Issue: Early English Education in Asia
Deadline for abstracts: April 1, 2012

The Journal of Asia TEFL is planning a thematic issue on early English 
education at the policy and implementation levels across different 
geographical contexts in Asia. We invite empirical and theoretical papers that 
examine the effects, enactments, and consequences of teaching English to 
young children in Asian EFL/ESL contexts.

Possible topics include (but will not be limited to):
-Theories of young learners' foreign language learning/acquisition
-Age factors and language learning
-Cognitive and social developments and early English learning
-Empirical studies of the effects of early English education 
-Development of various linguistic skills (e.g., listening, speaking, 
vocabulary, reading, etc.) related to age
-Cross-linguistic influence/transfer
-The roles of motivation and other affective factors in early English learning
-Professional development for educators of young English learners
-Assessment for young English learners
-Early English education in multilingual contexts
-Critical analyses of early English education policies
-Classroom discourse in early English language classes
-Political debates on the age of teaching foreign languages

For consideration for this issue, please send an abstract of up to 300 words 
to guest editors Yuko Butler and Hikyoung Lee (jofasiatefl at gmail.com). The 
abstract should include the geolinguistic context, the issue under 
consideration, the research question/focus, the theoretical framing and/or a 
synopsis of findings, and conclusions. If the abstract is accepted, you will be 
invited to submit a paper due August 1, 2012, which will undergo normal peer 
review procedures. The issue is scheduled for publication in late 2012. 

The Journal of Asia TEFL is published by The Asia TEFL (The Asian 
Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language; 
http://www.asiatefl.org/journal/journal1.html) and is a peer-reviewed journal 
indexed in Scopus.

Deadline for abstracts: April 1, 2012
Notification of abstract acceptance: April 20, 2012
Deadline for paper submission: August 1, 2012
Notification of paper acceptance: September 30, 2012
Final paper submission: November 1, 2012
