Meeting Description:

This fourth edition of the International Seminar on Phonology will again take place in Porto Alegre. As in previous editions, it will be hosted by PUCRS, but it is a joint organization of the Graduate Programs in Linguistics and Literature from UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul) and from PUCRS (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul). The main goal of the seminar is to provide researchers from Brazil and other countries with a venue to discuss phonology issues, addressing in particular phonology of Portuguese, indigenous languages and the Romance languages, phonological change, variation and acquisition. 

Invited Speakers:

Paul Kiparsky (Stanford University)  
Ricardo Bermúdez-Otero (University of Manchester)
Ben Hermans (Meertens Instituut, Amsterdam)
Leo Wetzels (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)

There will be conferences, round-tables and paper presentations. Teachers, researchers and students from Brazil and other countries are invited. The seminar will feature short courses preceding the event, on April 23 and 24 (visit our webpage for more information and registration). 

Call for Papers:

We welcome papers on any area of phonology (theoretical phonology, sound change, phonological variation, phonological acquisition, description of native languages, etc.) 

There are two types of submission: oral communication (for 20 min. followed by 10 min. discussion), or presentation in poster form.

The abstracts submitted will be evaluated by two anonymous reviewers.

Each author may submit up to two papers (including co-authorship).

Abstracts are to be submitted via the registration form posted on the webpage. 

Guidelines: 

- The abstract should not exceed one page of text (examples and references included)
- Language of the abstracts: Portuguese, Spanish or English
- In the line below of the heading, place the name of the author(s) and affiliation (a blank line should be left between the title lines and the abstract text) 
- Page format: A4, 2.5 cm margins on all sides; Font Times New Roman 12pt, Line spacing: single; for phonetic fonts: use Charis SIL, Sil Doulos Ipa, or IPA Kiel
- File format: *. Doc
- Name of the file: - for communication: [title-communication.doc]; for poster: [title-poster.doc]
