Description:

The School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies (LCCS) has grown
rapidly in recent years and now has over 1000 EFTSL (8,000 course
enrolments). It is one of the largest Schools of language instruction in
Australia with some 47 full-time academic staff. LCCS teaches Chinese,
French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and
Spanish, as well as Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to students in the
Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, the university-wide
concurrent Diploma in Languages, the Diploma of Arts, and dual degree
programs. At postgraduate level the School offers two NAATI-accredited
Masters programs in Translation and Interpreting and growing programs in
Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and TESOL. Staff research and supervise
PhD students in these fields and also in Australian Aboriginal languages.
The School leads the Brisbane Universities Language Alliance which manages
cross-institutional LOTE enrolments between UQ and the other two major
Universities in south-east Queensland: the Queensland University of
Technology, and Griffith University.

The program in Applied Linguistics at The University of Queensland is
dedicated to research on the development and use of non-native language in
all its complexity, including the acquisition and structure of second
languages, adult language pedagogy, and the social, cultural, and political
contexts of second language learning and use. The program offers a Masters
in Applied Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (TESOL Studies), as well as
undergraduate offerings in Cross-cultural Communication, Second Language
Teaching, and Language & Technology.

The Role: The School wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics to
commence in semester 2, 2012. They will be expected to engage as Lecturer,
in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and
the further development of the School's Applied Linguistics program. This
will be in addition to conducting research, and performing administrative
tasks and other activities associated with the School and the program.

The Person: Applicants should possess a PhD in an area of Applied
Linguistics, preferably with a specialisation in the Applied Linguistics of
one of the languages currently taught in the School: Chinese, French,
German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, and Portuguese.
Applicants should also be able to show evidence of successful teaching and
administration, as well as an ongoing research and publication profile.

Remuneration: The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$79,861 -
$94,834 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of 17% (total
package will be in the range AUD$93,437 - $110,956 p.a.). This is a
full-time, continuing appointment at Academic Level B.
