The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to engage in non-discriminatory
hiring practices. We urge employers not to discriminate on the grounds of race,
ethnicity, nationality, disability, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
However, we have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international

Aptima currently has openings for passionate, creative Scientist/Engineers
interested in working on a variety of applied projects related to topics such
as Statistical Modeling, Human Language Technologies, Natural
Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning, and Computational
Linguistics. Most of our work with these technologies involves applying
existing methods and integrating them with other capabilities to address
particular customer problems or evaluating the use of such methods for
such problems. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in problem
analysis, mathematical formulation, algorithm development, model
implementation and analysis.

Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. or Masters degree in Computational Linguistics, Applied
Mathematics, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field;
Suitable applicants may range from recent masters graduates through
established mid-career professionals; expectations, responsibilities, and
compensation will be commensurate with experience
- Understanding of underlying theories and at least 2 years of experience
developing and implementing solutions using several of the following
* Statistical NLP techniques (Latent Semantic Analysis, Latent Dirichlet
Allocation, or other topic modeling techniques)
* Machine learning techniques (supervised, unsupervised, semi-
* Clustering, classification, or regression analyses (support vector
machines, Bayesian classifiers, Kernel methods, Hidden Markov models)
* Communication and network analyses (social network analysis,
epidemiological modeling)
*  Non-parametric learning techniques
*  Information extraction and retrieval
*  Cognitive modeling
* Application and evaluation of technologies that utilize NLP technologies
(GATE, WEKA, etc.)
- Experience implementing complex algorithms and models in Java or C#
- Journal and/or other refereed publications
- Experience writing technical reports and/or proposals

modeling standards
- Experience collaborating with software engineers, mathematicians, and
intelligence analysts
- Experience in project management, business development, and/or
proposal writing
- Experience in database development and application (SQL Server,
MySQL, etc.)
