Workshop on Discourse Structure in Turkic Languages 
Date: September 18-21, 2012
Location: Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey

A two-hour workshop will be organized as part of the 16th International Conference on Turkic Linguistics (ICTL) in Ankara, September 18-21, 2012 (Website: http://www.ictl2012.metu.edu.tr). The format of the workshop includes the presentation of papers and posters. 

Call for Papers:

Potential participants are invited to send the workshop organizers an expression of interest including the title and a 50-word abstract.

Deadline for expression of interest (EOI): January 29, 2012

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers who investigate the structure of written and spoken discourse in Turkic languages from various perspectives, especially those that compare various discourse genres of written and/or spoken discourse. We invite papers exploring a wide range of linguistic phenomena including but not limited to the following topics:

Information structure marked by word order, morphology, and phonology
Connectives signaling various rhetorical relations, such as adversative, causal, etc.
Referring expressions, including pronouns, deixis, and full Noun Phrases
Tense, aspect in eventualities across genres
Modality in written and spoken discourse marked by modal verbs and adverbs, etc. 
Linguistic patterning and comparison across different genres 

The workshop concept and the individual papers and posters will be subject to the peer-review process organized by ICTL 2012 organizers. Upon acceptance of the workshop and the papers for inclusion in ICTL 2012, potential participants will be notified and extended abstracts of 250-words will be requested. 

The deadline for receipt of extended abstracts for oral presentations or poster presentations is February 10, 2012.
