The Applied Linguistics Association of Australia (ALAA) is pleased to announce details of its 2012 Annual Conference, to be held at the School of Education Curtin University in Western Australia.

Call for Papers:

The theme of the conference is Evolving Paradigms: Language and Applied Linguistics in a Changing World, and we invite papers on the following topics:

- Research Methods and Methodologies 
- Language Education 
- Emerging Technologies 
- Applied Linguistics and Globalisation 
- Language, Culture, and Society 
- Language and Literacy 
- Translating and Interpreting 
- Language Development
- Language Testing and Assessment 
- Language Planning and Policy 

Presentations will be 20 minutes long, with 5 minutes for question and discussion.

Submission of Abstracts:

Please submit your abstracts as an MS Word document (not as a .pdf file).

Abstracts should be formatted as follows:

Length: 300 words
Font: Arial
Spacing: Single
Margins: MS Word default (2.5 cms left & right; 3cms top & bottom)
Keywords: Please include 5 keywords, following the abstract proper and double-spaced from it.
Author: The author(s) names and contact details should be centred and appear below the other matter and well separated from it.

Publication:

The Conference will generate either a Refereed Proceedings or individual papers will be streamed and collected as a book if arrangements can be made with a suitable publisher. Papers for consideration for publication should be a maximum of 5000 words and follow the ARAL (Australian Review of Applied Linguistics) style. (ARAL is the Journal of the Applied Linguistics Association of Australia.) The deadline for submission of full papers for inclusion in the Proceedings is 30 November 2012.

If you would like to present at the Conference, please submit an abstract with the form available on our website.

Saving and Naming your File:

Save as a Microsoft Word document. Name the file ALAA followed by the first five letters of the surname of the presenting author, followed by the author's first initial. For example 'ALAAcitizj.doc' for an abstract with the presenting author Jane Citizen.
