Linguistic Field(s): Computational Linguistics; Linguistic Theories; Semantics

Call Deadline: 31-Jul-2012

Meeting Description:

A full-day workshop at PACLIC 2012 (The 26th Pacific Asia Conference on Language, Information, and Computation), will be held on Wednesday, 7 November 2012, at Bali, Indonesia.

Since its first framework proposed by James Pustejovsky (1991), the Generative Lexicon (GL) theory has become one of the most influential linguistic semantic theories. Subsequent developments have also been presented from linguistic, philosophical, and computational perspectives. In this first Workshop on The Generative Lexicon for Asian Languages (GLAL), we would like to bring together diverse contributions to explore the generative approaches to the lexicon, and put more focus on the implications for Asian languages.

Call for Papers:

The workshop calls for original research papers addressing theoretical issues as well as computational treatment of the Generative Lexicon theory (proposed by James Pustejovsky, 1991), and researches related to Asian languages are particularly encouraged. Topics may include, but not limited to the following:

Compositional mechanisms of argument selection and type coercion
The role of qualia in argument selection and modification constructions
Polysemy and sense shifting
Co-compositionality and creation of new word senses
Argument realization: mapping from lexicon to syntax
Cognitive foundations for semantic categories
Presupposition and commonsense knowledge
Underspecification and word sense disambiguation
Ontologies and the GL
Construction, maintaining and evaluating GL resources

The deadline for paper submissions is 31 July 2012.

Short papers (not more than 6 pages) are welcome, and should be submitted electronically via EasyChair at:
