Call for Papers:

Submissions are solicited for the 41st annual meeting of the North American Conference on Afroasiatic Linguistics (NACAL 41), which will be held at Yale University (New Haven, CT), on Saturday, February 16, 2013 and Sunday, February 17, 2013.

NACAL offers a venue for the presentation and discussion of original research on linguistic topics relevant to the languages of the Afroasiatic phylum (Chadic, Berber, Cushitic, Omotic, Egyptian, and Semitic). Topics related to all aspects of Afroasiatic languages, including phonology, morphology, syntax, comparative linguistics, sociolinguistics, and epigraphy, will be considered. These topics should only be considered as general guidelines and are not intended to be exhaustive.

The theme for NACAL 41 will be 'Afroasiatic Languages in Contact'. This theme intends to capitalize on the growing number of scholars working on language contact in the field of Afroasiatic Linguistics. In line with this theme, submissions dealing with contact situations involving Afroasiatic languages, whether with another Afroasiatic language or with a non-Afroasiatic language, are solicited, though no original submission will be rejected on account of its subject, so long as it relates to the languages of the Afroasiatic phylum and meets the scholarly standards established by previous conferences.

Abstracts describing the precise topic treated with a length of approximately 200-300 words can be sent as an electronic version (pdf and MS word document) to afroasiatic at gmail.com, or as a paper copy to the following address:

Aaron M. Butts
Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations
Yale University
P.O. Box 208236
New Haven, CT 06520-8236

The deadline for submission is November 15, 2012. We encourage online registration, for which please visit our website at http://www.nacal.org.
