Meeting Description:

The 8th DA Symposium @ Monash, titled 'Researching Discourses with an Open Mind,' will feature a keynote presentation by Professor Allan Bell (Auckland University of Technology) and will explore the benefits and pitfalls of the variety of DA approaches and methodologies used by researchers, while showcasing analysis on highly varied data sets. 

Call for Papers:

You are warmly encouraged to submit an abstract for the 8th Discourse Analysis Symposium. The DA Symposium @ Monash welcomes contributions in the broader area of DA: conversational analysis, pragmatics, interactional sociolinguistics, critical discourse analysis to mention a few.

Please clearly indicate in your abstract the DA approach(es) and discourse analytical tools you are utilizing in your research.

Contributors can explore one or more of the areas below:

1. Interactions in public and private spaces (e.g. academic speeches, family celebrations)
2. Interactions in institutional settings (e.g. education, medicine, law)
3. Intercultural mediation (e.g. interpreting, L1 and L2 speakers)
4. Intergenerational encounters (e.g. interactions between a young and an old speaker)
5. Interactions with digital media (e.g. blog, facebook)
6. Local and/or international press (e.g. The Age)

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and should be sent as either a Word document or pdf. If you would like to present a paper in an area which is not listed, please do not hesitate to send your proposal to Dr. Marisa Cordella for consideration at marisa.cordella at monash.edu.

Notification of acceptance will be made by 21 September.
