Dear LINGUIST List Subscriber,

My name is Junko Spiteri and I am a student originally from Japan. I am a graduate student and work as a financial editor at The LINGUIST List. I started to work as a financial editor in September 2011.

I got my undergraduate degree in English Linguistics in Eastern Michigan University back in 2001, but started working as an accounting administrator in a Japanese company. When my daughter was born in 2008, I decided to leave the company just to focus on raising my child. After she turned to 3 years old and started her preschool, I decided to go back to school so that I could increase my professional knowledge and skills.

I was so lucky to be accepted by Linguist List as a financial editor where my educational background and work experience can be optimized the most. The working experience here offers me a lot of opportunities to relearn about linguistics as well as acquiring professional accounting skills.

I work as a financial editor in Linguist List to assist the organization to plan and control its financial resources effectively and to keep accurate financial records.

As a non-profit research institute, The LINGUIST List relies on your financial support via donations to continue its operation. Without your generous support, The LINGUIST List as you know it today would cease to exist, because the organization would not be able to employ the graduate students who process your submissions, maintain the databases and web pages as well as provide other useful services to the global linguistic community. As an accounting major I know that if these services were to be provided at a cost, very few linguists would be able to afford them.

To help keep organization alive to continue providing its invaluable services, please donate again to this years fund drive at:
http://linguistlist.org/donation/donate/donate1.cfm

I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for supporting The LINGUIST List. I hope you will continue to support the organization so that future LINGUIST List editors will have the opportunity to learn while at the same time providing high quality service to you.

You can donation $5, $10, $15, $20, $30 or more at:
http://linguistlist.org/donation/donate/donate1.cfm

Very sincere thanks for your donations.

Sincerely,

Junko Spiteri

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax
return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site,
or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a
simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to
LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.
