Description:

Reporting to the Programme Director (PD), the English Language 
Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, facilitation, and 
evaluation of ELIS's language programmes in accordance with ELIS's 
mission and vision. English is the medium of instruction in all Singapore 
schools as well as a subject of study for all primary and secondary school 
students.

The English Language Specialist should be able to effectively engage 
teacher-learners who teach at the primary, secondary and pre-university 
levels in Singapore schools. These teacher-learners will typically have the 
equivalent of IELTS 6 to 8 in English. They require enhanced skill in the 
use English in the teaching of their subjects and in professional 
communication settings within the school.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
-  Plan, design, and facilitate professional development courses in effective 
communication skills, and supporting materials and resources, to meet the 
needs of English medium teachers
-  Assist the Programme Director in marketing such programmes to target 
audiences
-  Maintain quality of courses and support by monitoring programmes on a 
regular basis, and conduct an annual evaluation of programmes using an 
agreed evaluation framework
-  Conduct research into language use in the context of classroom 
interaction within content area teaching

Entry Requirements:
-  A relevant Master's degree, with specialisation in English Language (as a 
first language) or Linguistics
-  A minimum of 8 years of teaching experience, with knowledge of adult 
learning methodologies preferred; Experience of holding posts of 
responsibility, such as Head of Department, would be an advantage
-  Recent experience of school-based research or participation in action 
research projects as part of a professional learning community preferred
-  Extensive experience in developing in-service English Language 
communication skills courses or programmes
-  Expertise in the development of curriculum for the use of English in the 
teaching of specific subjects (e.g. English for Physics) will be highly 
desirable
-  Proven facilitation skills in the context of teacher development workshops
-  Proven skills in planning, managing and writing up research projects
