Description:

In preparation for a new university-wide foreign language requirement, the
Department of World Languages and Literatures at Southern Methodist
University seeks to hire a Language Program Director at the rank of
Professor of the Practice. Applicants must have a PhD in Foreign Language
Education, SLA, Applied Linguistics or a related field, with emphasis on
Second Language Pedagogy and Instructional Methodology. The ideal candidate
will have a demonstrated record in language coordination, curriculum
development, and foreign language assessment, the ability to coordinate and
oversee cognate and non-cognate languages, the ability to teach at least
one language currently offered by the Department, and a record of
outstanding teaching. 

Responsibilities include collaboration with the Department's first and
second year language coordinators to develop and implement common learning
outcomes, the promotion of best teaching practices at all levels of
instruction, and oversight of the foreign language requirement. This is a
non-tenure-track position with a three-year renewable contract and a
teaching load of one 3-credit course per semester.
