Meeting Description:

'The Social Side of Speech' is a 1-day conference focusing on leading-edge international and national research in experimental sociophonetics. This research topic addresses empirical studies of how people speak the same language, yet do so differently depending on their social and geographical origins. Those speech differences are, in turn, demonstrably apparent to native listeners of the language.

The conference is sponsored by the MARCS Institute and the School of Humanities and Communication Arts, UWS and will take place at UWS Bankstown campus on Wednesday, 11 April 2012. We have an exciting line-up of invited talks by international experts, and talks about ongoing socio-phonetics research at MARCS Institute.
