Movement, Gesture and Language
New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain & Behaviour (NZILBB)
College of Arts, University of Canterbury

A 2 year Post-doctoral position is available within the general area of 
research on movement, gesture and language. The successful applicant 
would join a team of researchers who are undertaking a number of projects 
looking at the production and perception of movement/gesture whilst 
speaking.

Ongoing projects are looking at:

-  Differences in gesture production by bilingual speakers and the perception of these speakers based on gestures alone 
-  The coordination of body movement with speech
-  Differences in the gestures used by speakers when interacting with members of different ethnic groups

This research is conducted using state-of-the art- audio-visual recording 
suites at NZILBB (http://www.nzilbb.canterbury.ac.nz/) and the vision space 
facility at the HITLab NZ (http://www.hitlabnz.org/). NZILBB also recently 
acquired a 3D Suit for the inertial recording of body movements.
