The University of Southampton, one of the UK's leading research-intensive 
universities and a member of the Russell Group, invites applications for a 
Chair in Applied Linguistics (UK equivalent of Full Professor) from candidates 
who have an excellent international track record of leadership, research and 
publication. We are particularly interested in highly experienced and well 
established individuals with interests in the fields of Second Language 
Acquisition, Second Language Education and/or English 
Language/Linguistics to complement and strengthen the existing research 
expertise of staff in the department of Modern Languages in the Faculty of 
Humanities. 

The new Chair is expected to possess publications at a level appropriate for 
an excellent submission to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. 
Candidates for this post should be outstanding scholars with an excellent 
research profile in their specific area of specialisation. Applicants should 
demonstrate: 

-  Evidence of internationally leading research in one or more areas of applied 
linguistics 
-  Ability to supervise and train research staff and students and to enhance 
the research reputation of the Faculty of Humanities 
-  Ability to secure substantial research funding from diverse sources 
-  Enthusiasm and capability to contribute strongly to UG and PG teaching 
programmes 
-  Capability to play a leading role in the management of Modern Languages.
