Meeting Description: 

The fourth edition of the International Summer School in Affective Sciences 
(ISSAS 2012), organized by the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences (SCAS), 
will take place from August 22 to 29 at the Château de Bossey, an 18th-
century manor house overlooking Lake Geneva and the French Alps.

This year the central topic of the summer school is 'Art, Aesthetics and the 
Emotions'.

The topics to be discussed include:
- the role of affect and emotions in the appreciation of art
- the nature of aesthetic emotions
- the role of metaphor in the representation and expression of emotion
- the neural systems and dynamics underlying artistic creativity, talent and 
appreciation

The scientific program for 2012 comprises (i) plenary lectures by scholars 
from different disciplines who have made crucial contributions in the area, 
and (ii) practical workshops in which students will discuss key topics of 
interest in the domain and become familiar with various research 
methodologies.  

The school will address conceptual issues and empirical methods in the 
philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience of aesthetics, as well as in 
linguistics, art history, literature and film.
