Meeting Description:

The workshop intends to provide a forum for discussing a number of topics covered by Professor Nunzio La Fauci in his publications (the complete list is available at http://www.nunziolafauci.it/).

Professor La Fauci earned his degree at the University of Palermo in 1975 and then studied linguistics in Pisa (with Riccardo Ambrosini) and in Paris (with Maurice Gross). He taught Theoretical Linguistics at the Università di Palermo (Facoltà di Lettere, 1981-1987), Dialectology at the Università della Calabria (1988-1989), and General Linguistics at the Università di Palermo (Facoltà di Scienze della formazione, 1989-1997). He then took the position of Professor of Italian Linguistics at the Universität Zürich (UZH), which he currently holds. Professor La Fauci's research in morphosyntax (his favorite area) spans subjects such as: antonomasia, auxiliation patterns, existential constructions, impersonal constructions, non-linear grammars, parameters, passives, past participle agreement in Romance, proper nouns, and support verbs.

Conference fees: 80 Euros, 40 Euros for students (the fee includes a Gala dinner to be held on Friday) 

Call for Papers:

The workshop aims at attracting submissions which analyze any linguistic constructs (from binary features to multi-word expressions) as pure relations, whether syntagmatic or paradigmatic. The papers presented at the workshop will be published in a Festschrift to honor Professor Nunzio La Fauci's 60th birthday.

Preferred topics are:

Theories of grammar and grammatical descriptions
>From Latin to Romance languages: diachrony, varieties, typology
History of linguistic thought (from von Humboldt on)
Algorithms in linguistics
Literary linguistics (in literature, media and society)
Mysteries in the linguistic expression

Presentations will be twenty minutes plus ten minutes for discussion.

Abstracts:

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously. They will be one-page long plus another page for references, author's name, affiliation, title of the paper, and five key words (Times New Roman 12, pdf format). Send your abstract to: relationsinlanguage at gmail.com.
