Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers,

Prepare yourselves: the time has come for the Final Round of
the Grand 2012 Limerick Competition.

The winners from the first three rounds go head-to-head in
one last battle, vying for the title of Ultimate Supreme
Limerick Champion. Who will your vote carry to the top?

http://linguistlist.org/fund-drive/2012/limericks.cfm

Our three contenders are:

1. Graham Shorrocks, Memorial University of Newfoundland

There is a young Linguist List Crew,
That's asking for dollars anew;
So send your donation
Without hesitation,
Be it many dollars or few.

2. Elaine May Smith, Mearns FM, Scotland

We took up this challenge on Pi Day
This circle of linguists then cried, "Hey!
Funds from a Limerick
Makes a fine Gimm(er)ick:
It's St Patrick's Eve there on Friday!"

3. Brenda Boerger, SIL

There once was a linguist that's Sweet,
Who could place London speech within feet.
This philologist told
Of Germanic of old,
But left us before he could tweet.

Head over to the limericks page, pick your favorite, and
cast your ballot:

We'd also like to thank everyone who submitted limericks--
we had so many fabulous contenders that we needed to enshrine
them for posterity. You can see every single limerick
contributed to the contest at the Limerick Museum:

donations? Support the only website in the world which

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax
return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site,
or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a
simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to
LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
