Meeting Description:

The Foreign Languages School of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) and the Publisher of the Journal of Foreign Languages and Their Teaching are pleased to announce the forthcoming the international conference on Research and Applications of Intercultural Communication to be held on November 16-18, 2012 in Wuhan, China, hosted by The Foreign Languages School of ZUEL.

The theme of this conference is 'Intercultural Literacy, Communication, and Competence in the Context of Multiculturalism', with a focus on the application of intercultural communication research in China's contacts with the world. The conference aims to broaden the horizon of intercultural communication studies with Chinese theoretical and empirical studies and to provide guidelines for the increasingly frequent intercultural activities of Chinese people.

The conference programme will include keynote speeches, panel sessions and workshops. 

- Papers for keynote speeches will be recommended by the conference paper-review committee and the organizing committee. 
- Panel sessions of 90 minutes should allow for participation by the session coordinator, the commentator, and papers by 4 speakers. Each individual paper will be no more than 15 minutes in length with 5 minutes of time for questions. The conference paper-review and organizing committees will make arrangement of panel sessions according to the themes of individual papers.
- Conference workshops are prepared speeches and in-depth discussions, with workshop tasks or activities (concerning original ideas and recent progress of the field) 

Call for Papers:

We invite the submission of high-quality papers for the conference.

The ICC conference focuses on the following topics: 

Intercultural Communication: 
 
- Approaches and theories and building relevant disciplines, e.g. discourse analysis, psychology, sociology 
- Cross-cultural communication research, adaptation
- Intercultural rhetoric, semiotics, semantics, pragmatics
- Competence, accommodation, identification and training

Research and Application of Intercultural Communication in:

- Work contexts, social contexts, local and personal contexts, global contexts
- Mass communication
- Education and training in intercultural communication, teaching Chinese or English as a foreign language, language issues

Guidelines for Submission:

- Conference paper abstract: an abstract (around 150 words). Please refer to the conference website for the abstract format.
- Workshop proposal: a proposal (around 800 words, please highlight the theme and indicate the particular research focus and topics for discussion); academic bios of the workshop coordinator and presenters (100 words for each). All the listed documents should be submitted by the coordinator. 
- Working languages: English and Chinese. Papers and speeches are encouraged to be written and delivered in English while those in Chinese are also welcomed. Different sessions will be grouped in the programme according to the languages.

Papers recommended by the conference paper-review committee will be published on an ISBN publication.

30 September 2012: Deadline for final submission of papers
20 October 2012: Notification of acceptance/rejection
16-18 November 2012: Dates of the conference
