Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Alberta invites
applications for a tenure-track position in Psycholinguistics at an
open rank. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Linguistics
or related field, demonstrate outstanding potential for a teaching and
research career, show a commitment to innovation in methodology
and analysis, and be willing to play a leadership role in an
established research laboratory environment, the Centre for
Comparative Psycholinguistics (http://ccp.artsrn.ualberta.ca),
which is a hub of national and international collaboration. A strong
research record in any area of psycholinguistics will be considered.
Experience working with eye-tracking and ERP laboratory equipment
is an asset.

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Alberta offers
degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate level and has
established itself as a major centre, both nationally and
internationally, for graduate education and research in empirical and
experimental approaches to human language. Our faculty and
graduate students, often in collaboration with scholars from other
departments and other universities, are actively involved in a wide
range of data-driven linguistic research with a strong focus on the
study of language through observation, fieldwork, and
experimentation. The Department consists of eleven full-time,
continuing faculty members pursuing research projects in
experimental phonetics, phonology, morphosyntax and semantics of
Amerindian languages, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics,
language documentation and revitalization, bilingual 1st and 2nd
language acquisition and language impairment, psycholinguistics,
computational/historical linguistics, and sociolinguistics. There are
usually 35-40 students in our graduate programs at any given time,
of which roughly one quarter are pursuing the MSc while the majority
are working towards the PhD.

Established in 1908 as a board-governed, public institution, the
University of Alberta has earned the reputation of being one of the
best universities in Canada based on our strengths in teaching,
research, and service. The University of Alberta serves over 37,000
students in more than 200 undergraduate programs and 170
graduate programs (http://www.ualberta.ca). The Faculty of Arts is the
oldest and most diverse faculty on campus, and one of the largest
research and teaching centres in Western Canada
(http://www.arts.ualberta.ca). Courses in Linguistics have been
offered regularly at the University of Alberta since 1969, making our
program one of the oldest in Western Canada. The University's main
campus is located in Edmonton, the vibrant, cosmopolitan capital of
the province of Alberta. Edmonton is located only a few hours drive
from Banff and Jasper National Parks, which offer skiing in winter
and excellent hiking and sightseeing in summer.
