Meeting Description:

Linguistic Snapshots: Language and Cognition 2
1-2 March 2013

The second conference aims to continue the good traditions formulated during the initial one:

- Openness to all theoretical approaches and methods
- Promoting advanced as well as initial research
- Refreshing the scholarly perspective by reference to the latest linguistic trends
- Multi-linguistic approach - analyses of different languages

The central theme for this year is 'Extension and its Limits.' Since nothing in language is constant, extension seems a process that is worth studying in its own rights. Albeit complex and elusive, we believe that facing it may lead to numerous fascinating questions about its regularities, directions, possible limits, as well as methodologies of describing it.

Conference Venue and Fee:

The venue will take place in Sosnowiec, 5 Grota-Roweckiego, Poland. The conference fee is 100 euros/400 PLN and it includes conference materials, coffee breaks, and conference dinner.

Publication:

A reviewed monograph will be published out of selected articles. More detailed information will follow.

Our distinguished guest this year is professor Klaus-Uwe Panther from the University of Hamburg, Germany.

Call for Papers:

Because extension can be traced at all levels of language organisation, characterising it takes researchers from all possible fields. Therefore, we invite abstracts for presentations addressing this issue from the perspectives that include, but are by no means limited to:

- Semantics
- Pragmatics
- Cognitive linguistics
- Phonetics
- Phonology
- Morphology
- Syntax
- Discourse analysis
- Lexicography
- Historical linguistics
- Etc.

Abstract Submission and Registration:

Please submit abstracts, in the language of the presentation, no longer than 250 words (Times New Roman, 12pt) in the Word or PDF format to lislac at us.edu.pl by 6 January 2013. The body of the mail should contain the following information: the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation, title of the presentation and contact details (postal and email address). All the abstracts will be subject to blind peer review by the Scientific Committee. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 20 January 2013. Presentations will be allocated 20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for questions.

Further information and the registration form will be soon available at:

http://uranos.cto.us.edu.pl/~icfsla/lislac/

Conference Languages:

The languages spoken at the conference are English and Polish.
