Description:

Two postdoctoral positions are now available in the Institute for Intelligent 
Systems (IIS) at the University of Memphis. Individuals who fill these positions 
will help develop the next generation of intelligent tutoring systems that use 
conversational agents to assist students to learn. The postdoctoral researchers 
will be working in a highly interdisciplinary institute collaborating with students, 
staff, and faculty in several departments, including computer science, 
psychology, mathematics, engineering, and education. The IIS at the University 
of Memphis has a long tradition of mentoring postdoctoral researchers and has a 
great track record of placing them in excellent teaching and research positions. 

Basic functions include research, development, implementation and evaluation 
of advanced learning environments as part of the Office of Naval Research 
(ONR) STEM Grand Challenge Project. Minimal qualifications are a PhD in 
computer science, cognitive science, and/or related areas. Successful 
candidates for software engineering must have R&D experiences in software 
design and development. Successful candidates for computational linguistics 
must have R&D experiences in computational linguistics, such as parsers and 
semantic analytical tools. Successful candidates for cognitive sciences must 
have research experiences in cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence,
