Description:

The International Doctoral Program in Linguistics 'Theory of Language and Applied
Linguistics' (LIPP) - from 2013 on a department of the new Graduate School
Language and Literature Munich (L&L Munich) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität - is
offering a doctoral student position (TV-L E13, 50%, 2,5 years with evaluation after
the first year; start of employment April 2013) for excellent candidates to work on a
linguistic research project in one of the program's research fields: 'Phenomenology of
Language', 'Empirical study of natural languages and its methodology' 'Language and
Society', 'Language Theory and Language Modelling'.

Doctoral students enjoy excellent conditions in an interdisciplinary environment
with around 50 participants working on a broad variety of linguistic topics. The
program is research oriented and has a systematically structured
interdisciplinary curriculum. It offers an individual and intensive advisory
program for doctoral candidates, an international guest-speaker program,
financial support for international research projects as well as a variety of
courses to strengthen personal and analytical skills. Double-degrees within the
framework of 'Cotutelle de Thèse' are supported. Application requirements are
a university degree with a grade above average (Magister Artium, diploma,
state board examination, Master of Arts ('with thesis'), Maîtrise, Laurea, etc.)
in a linguistic subject, very good knowledge of German (courses are held in
German), working knowledge of English and at least one other language. We
especially welcome students with degrees from outside of Germany. Students
are expected to participate actively in the program and to have a good ability
to work in teams.
