University or Organization: Friedrich Schiller University Jena
Job Location: Jena, Germany
Web Address: http://www.slawistik.uni-jena.de
Job Rank: Full Professor

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Slavic Linguistics

Required Language(s): Polish (pol)

Description:

The successful candidate should have a research focus on Polish linguistics
and a strong record in that field. The position to be filled will play a
central role in the development of the Aleksander Brueckner Centre for Polish
Studies, which is being established at the Universities of Halle and Jena,
funded by the foundation for German-Polish Cooperation (Fundacja Współpracy
Polsko-Niemieckiej). The holder of the position will be expected to
participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with literary studies, Eastern
European history, and social and political sciences.

Applicants should cover the entire range of Slavonic linguistics beyond the
focus on Polish. In the context of interdisciplinary collaboration with the
Centre of Polish Studies and with a view to teaching programmes, a research
focus is expected in one of the areas “Language variation and language change”
(e.g. Sociolinguistics) and “Linguistic knowledge and language use” (e.g.
cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, second language acquisition), or in
regional or area studies on “East-Central Europe”. Furthermore, participation
in the Bachelor and Master programmes – mainly in the soon to be launched
Master Course “Interdisciplinary Polish Studies” – as well as in the
development of the teacher training courses is expected.

The Friedrich Schiller University of Jena is committed to an equal
opportunities policy and intends to increase the number of female professors.
Applications from female candidates are therefore strongly encouraged. In
cases of comparable qualifications and experience, preference will be given to
disabled candidates.
