Meeting Description:

The Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association (RMMLA) is a non-profit membership organization, established in 1947, that promotes the study and teaching of language, literature, and culture. The RMMLA is one of six regional but independent branches of the Modern Language Association of America. The RMMLA has approximately 900 faculty, student, and independent members. RMMLA holds an annual convention early October, attended by over 600 of our members. Sessions are varied in topics, from different literature and cultural topics in foreign languages to applied and theoretical linguistics of those foreign languages. One of its sessions on linguistics is ‘Spanish and Portuguese Linguistics’ but it welcomes discussion on any Romance language. The goal is for the linguists working on a Romance language around the Rocky Mountain Area to meet and share their research interests.

Call for Papers:

Deadline: Paper proposals due March 1, 2013

Abstracts of 300 words or less on any aspect of romance linguistics, theoretical or applied, for a 15 minutes presentation plus 5 minutes questions are welcome for the Romance Linguistics Session at the RMMLA. Papers with a usage-based account or an empirical methodology are particularly welcome.

Please submit your abstract to:

Dr. Irene Checa-Garcia
ichecaga at uwyo.edu
Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Hoyt Hall, Rm 424, Dept. 3603
1000 E. University Ave

Guidelines for Presenters:

- One does not have to be a member of RMMLA to propose a paper, but once accepted one must become a member to appear in the program. Membership forms are available at http://rmmla.wsu.edu, under Membership.

- Paper proposals based on a 300-word abstract and a 50-word description are due to the session chair no later than March 1. You will be notified of the chair's decision by May 1. Please send an electronic version of your abstract to: ichecaga at uwyo.edu.

- Members who propose papers are expected to attend the convention to read at the scheduled time. The Program Committee does all possible to vary the day/time a session meets from year to year, and to accommodate scheduling requests based on extraordinary circumstances, but not all requests can be granted. If you have a paper accepted for the convention, please plan to attend and share your research-work.

- Please notify the chair and the RMMLA Secretariat immediately if you find you are unable to present, so that a replacement might be found.

- It is the policy of the RMMLA not to have papers read in absentia, except under extraordinary circumstances or at the discretion of the Executive Director.
