Description:

Reed College seeks applications for a one-year visiting position in Linguistics 
at the Assistant Professor level for the 2013-14 academic year, to commence 
August 2013. Applicants should have a strong teaching and research 
specialization in one or more of the following areas: socio-linguistics, 
bilingualism and language contact, historical linguistics, or the structure of 
sign languages. Candidates with research experience in quantitative analysis, 
experimental methods, and/or fieldwork on understudied languages or 
language communities, are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience in 
teaching and advising student research projects is also highly desirable. PhD 
or ABD in Linguistics required for appointment.

Reed is a selective liberal arts institution with a commitment to teaching 
excellence and scholar-ship. The appointee will join a small but 
comprehensive undergraduate linguistics department and offer five semester 
courses: two sections of our spring introductory course (Introduction to 
Language, Culture, and Society) along with three upper-division courses. The 
position also involves supervising year-long senior thesis projects on a wide 
array of topics within linguistics.
