Description:

Within a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, at the French 
Studies Unit of the Department of Linguistics and Literature / University of 
Basel (Switzerland) we are offering 

2 Doctoral Positions 
(3 years, full grant, starting from 1.1.2013)
in interactional linguistics

The PhD candidates will write their dissertation within the SNF project 'Speaking in 
public: Social interactions within large groups. Contributions from a 
conversation analytic multimodal perspective' directed by Lorenza Mondada.

We are looking for PhD candidates 
- having a Master in linguistics
- interested in research on social interaction, possibly having a training in 
conversation analysis and in transcribing spoken corpora
- interested in fieldwork and video analysis, possibly having experience in 
empirical research methods
- able to work on French data, with native or near-native competence in French
- having a good knowledge of German or English

We offer 2 posts consisting each one in
- a full-time doctoral position (salary: candoc Swiss National Foundation)
- for 3 years
- in order to complete a PhD Dissertation
- in French linguistics or general linguistics
- within the above mentioned project 

The PhD students will work in a small dynamic team at the University of Basel; 
they will be offered office space and all research infrastructure needed. They 
are expected to live in the Basel area.
