Description:

Fall Semester, 2013

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education
seeks applications from individuals with scholarly interests and expertise
in second language learning, particularly in the education of English
language learners (ELLs) or the preparation of teachers of ELLs or World
Languages in K-12 classrooms. The positions are tenure track appointments
at the Assistant/Associate Professor level within the World Languages
Education program with an expectation of participation in the graduate
program in Language, Culture, and Society. Faculty members normally teach
both undergraduate and graduate courses each year.

These are tenure track, 36-week appointments with the possibility of
supplementary summer appointments in research and/or teaching. Salary will
be commensurate with education and experience. Full University benefits apply. 

Responsibilities:
-Engage in research, writing, and other scholarly activities related to
educating English language learners or second/foreign language teacher
education
-Teach courses in the Language, Culture, and Society graduate program,
supervise doctoral students in their programs and research, and supervise
graduate teaching and/or research assistants
-Teach undergraduate courses related to the education of ELLs and within
the ESL certificate program or World Languages Education program
-Contribute to program development in the ESL certificate and World
Languages Education programs, including curricula, international exchange
programs, school-based and international field experiences
-Contribute to the administration of the ESL certificate program, providing
leadership to commonwealth campuses in curriculum development and delivery
-Provide service, outreach, and leadership to the University, educational
institutions, agencies, and professional organizations and learned societies

Required Qualifications:
-Earned doctorate in applied linguistics/TESOL, second language
acquisition, or a closely related field
-Evidence of a commitment to developing a significant program of research,
commensurate with experience;
-Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising including
a willingness to consider teaching in online environments, where
appropriate, along with an interest in the use of modern technology,
commensurate with experience
-Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from
diverse backgrounds, commensurate with experience

official graduate transcripts (where appropriate), up to three
representative reprints or preprints of scholarly publications (if
