Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages
Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor

The Department is a young and vibrant unit established in 2004, with 
specializations in comparative linguistics, language acquisition, 
bilingualism, sign linguistics, and cognitive neuroscience. It now 
invites applications for a professoriate post in sociolinguistics, 
language variation and change. Additional expertise in bilingualism 
and/or language acquisition will be an advantage.

Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in a related discipline; (ii) 
strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching; and (iii) 
high-quality research publications and clear research directions. 

The appointee will (a) teach relevant undergraduate and 
postgraduate courses; (b) supervise projects and theses of 
undergraduate, MA, MPhil and PhD students; (c) develop research in 
his/her areas of expertise; and (d) undertake administrative duties.  

Appointment will normally be made on a contract basis for up to 
three years initially commencing August 2013, which, subject to 
mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or 
substantiation later.

Salary and Fringe Benefits:
Salary will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications 
and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit 
package, including medical care, a contract-end gratuity for an 
appointment of two years or longer, and housing benefits for eligible
